Beauty and simplicity

At first glance this looks like nothing more than funky new age art that you can buy in your local urban outfitters but wow… this is and might be the future of computing.  Starting from design and functionality, its designer Ken Wu, created the Zeed+. zeed2.jpg

Each year, Microsoft hosts a Next generation PC competition asking all sorts of firms and individuals to innovate and create new designs for the future of computers.  This computer was the one I liked the most and won third place at this event!  The Zeed+ is a concept computer which uses design elements from the Japanese art of floral arrangement called “Ikebana”.   Judging from the picture and what I have read, the stems of the computer are components such as hard-drives, CPU processor, wireless card etc… As users outgrow or need to upgrade, they simply replace the stems not the whole unit.  Pretty cool from a sustainability view as we can ensure longer lives for our computers while reducing the amount of tech trash that is accumulating in our landfills.  The base is a touch screen where people can press functions and operate the computer to play music, movies and read emails.  Not shown here but I think a screen can be attached as well.  It is a great balance of features with the beauty of a floral arrangement.
