I realize there is a lot of debate over the quality information on wikipedia or online in general. Aside from this fact, I think there is a great value in being able to absorb and understand the information, and people who can (and want to) should be able to gauge themselves on a set standard.
For example, John reads everything there is to know about 4 cylynder engines on wikipedia, as well as about.com, and watches every video on the topic at ehow.com etc… John is a type of expert, or at least very knowledge on the topic but without paying ton of money for a degree or other standardized test, know one will know how smart John is on the topic. Just as there are user created articles on wikipedia it would be great if there were ways for experts to create tests (wiki style), which allow people like john to boast their knowledge, It could be as simple as a little badge that John can put on his personal blog, or it could be something more professional that people could proudly put on their resume.
There are a lot of ways to spin this idea of a wikipedia diploma, or knowledge certificates (my favorite are badges for blog posts or social network profiles: xing, facebook, etc…
). I realize its a bit half-baked but im throwing it out there so we can toss around some conceptualization ideas…
